Over the weekend, a friend of mine asked me what designer I would wear if I could only choose one for the rest of my life. I sat there, dumbfounded, trying to think of a reasonable answer. I ended up saying Ami, if we were to pretend money was no object. But do you know what label never crossed my mind? Abercrombie & Fitch. Not once did the maker of electric turquoise hoodies, shrunken shirts and shredded jeans pop into my head. And trust me, I went through that phase just like every other teenager desperate for approval and popularity.
When I saw VICE‘s interview with Amanda Schmidt, a performance artist who has vowed to wear A&F every day for a full year, I was intrigued by her dedication. She’s certainly not their typical style, but given all the hot water they’ve gotten into recently, that’s probably a good look for them. She, like many of us, probably recalls a time when people who wore A&F tormented others in their bid for high school domination. As part of her mission, she’s documenting every single look on tumblr.
