Alex Kramer got her professional start as a photo editor for hip hop magazine The Source, so it’s no surprise that the sharp lines and monochromatic look of black-and-white photography inform her sporty, eponymous ready-to-wear line. Kramer’s co-designer Brian Stanziale hails from the editorial world as well, having written for the Chicago Tribune before deciding to focus on a design career.
With a legging-style pant dubbed the Newton (after famed photog Helmut Newton) and a perfectly clean pencil skirt sure to work slimming magic on any woman’s figure, the pair’s collection is packed with classic foundation items that make a statement via fit and fabrication rather than flashy patterns. And since Alex Kramer was picked up exclusively by Barneys New York this season, you won’t see everybody and their sister wearing these all-black, body-conscious tops and dresses.
