Last month, we announced that R&B star Alicia Keys was the new brand ambassador for Givenchy’s upcoming fragrance, and now we have all the details about the campaign—way earlier than the anticipated September release date!
The collaboration actually isn’t too much of a surprise: it began because of her close friendship with Givenchy’s designer, Riccardo Tisci. “Spiritually we’re a lot alike,” she said in WWD. “The fashion world can make you a little soulless. So when I met him, it was nice to see that he’s really soulful. We did four intimate shows with just me on the piano and he designed the look for them… As time passed [the campaign] came to fruition. I love what Givenchy is about. [It’s] this timeless, chic, but very strong woman, but with an edgier, almost street feel. I love that she’s raw, but she’s powerful—and that’s who I believe I am, too.”
The new fall fragrance, Dahlia Divin, is floral and woody with a mix of jasmine, mirabelle plum, patchouli, vetiver and sandalwood. In the print and television ads shot by Tim Walker in Paris, Keys wears a gorgeous gold Givenchy gown that matches the pretty bottle.
While Keys calls herself a “beauty virgin” in the WWD article, this certainly isn’t her first time partnering with a beauty company. Back in January, she worked with Kiehl’s on their skin serum to raise money for children with HIV. Clearly, both in her music and her beauty career, this girl is on fire.
