Remember how fun Old Navy’s late-’90s-era commercials used to be? They were full of beautiful, singsongy people clad in colorful clothes while dancing in sync—an advertising strategy also adopted by brands like Gap and Target. Those were the times, man. But if you can’t go back to the glory days, you may as well recruit a comedic genius instead.
Old Navy tapped Amy Poehler to star in—as well as help write and create—a new series of ads to run through the summer. In the first spot, which debuted online yesterday and is set to premiere tonight during American Idol, Amy plays an executive at a law firm who is interviewing a candidate for a job. Awestruck by the candidate’s Old Navy outfit, Amy promptly offers her the job before storming out to door to run to Old Navy herself. The whole thing is rather cute, all with the tongue-in-cheek solemnity that the Parks and Recreation star does so well.
