André Leon Talley has an interesting new gig to add to his seasoned resume.
Footwear giant Zappos has tapped Talley to join the brand as artistic director of Zappos’ high-end off-shoot, Zappos Couture. Talley’s yearlong role will encompass overseeing the Couture site’s editorial content, including all fashion shoots, videos, trend forecasts and more—all of which will make its debut on January 22.
Zappos Couture’s extensive roster of luxe vendors—including Gucci, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana—gives Talley an expansive playground with which to work. Good thing, too: Talley left Vogue last year after more than 30 years to take on a series of odd jobs (or rather, the fashion A-list equivalent), including an international editor-at-large title for Numero Russia. We also imagine there’s, you know, quite a bit of money in the gig, too (but that’s besides the point).
"We’re really looking to become the destination in online luxury shopping," Jennifer Sidary, head of couture at Zappos Couture, told WWD. "For us, we still have a lot of brands we’re looking to acquire for the site and we hope that with André’s partnership, it will help us develop relationships with these brands."
We can’t wait to see where Talley will take Zappos in 2014!
