It was generally agreed upon (here at Lucky, at least) that Anna Kendrick was the belle of the ball at February’s New York Fashion Week, popping up in the front row show after show alongside NYFW staples like Solange Knowles and Jamie Chung. She was a fixture throughout awards season, too, appearing and presenting at nearly every major event, often in J. Mendel.
The 28-year-old Pitch Perfect actress even presented with Pharrell at the Grammys—which may now informally be known as The Hat’s first-ever public appearance. But, here’s the thing: she didn’t even notice his towering Vivienne Westwood accessory at the time.
Rather than attributing the oversight to nerves, Anna told Seth on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday: "I didn’t even register the hat. He was this far away from me and we met before and we did the whole thing together and I looked on Twitter and everyone was talking about it," Anna described. "I think in person it just doesn’t look that big? So I think Pharrell is looking in the mirror saying, ‘Guys, I’m telling you, it’s not that big!’"
Seth then appropriately deemed the garment an "optical illusion hat," so there you have it.
