At last night’s New York City Ballet Fall Gala in honor of Valentino Garavani, Anne Hathaway turned up in a gorgeous floral gown from Valentino’s Fall 2012 Couture collection. But while his ready-to-wear and couture are now designed by Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, Valentino revealed he’ll be creating the dress for Anne’s upcoming wedding to Adam Shulman entirely on his own. By the way, we totally called this last November.
The 80-year-old industry legend told E! News that he "did the dress" for Anne’s big day, adding, "she’s a very good friend of mine. She’s like my daughter!" That love’s clearly mutual, as the actress has worn countless Valentino looks over the past several years, including during her hosting gig at the 2011 Oscars. Last December, she even chose to forgo sleep in favor of hosting the unveiling of Valentino’s virtual museum.
No word yet on what Anne’s gown will look like—but for our part, we’re looking to Valentino’s Spring 2008 Haute Couture collection (the designer’s pre-retirement swan song) for hints. Valentino’s last self-designed lineup earned rave reviews and was conveniently packed with wedding-worthy dresses. Click through to see them.
