Although Annette Funicello died at age 70 yesterday of multiple sclerosis complications, most people don’t picture her as an elderly woman—let alone a sick one. As a founding member of Disney‘s Mickey Mouse Club and regular heroine of several ’60s-era "beach party" films, she’ll forever be imprinted in America’s psyche as a young, vivacious performer, singing and dancing her way through fame.
