We’ve said before that 2013 was the year of the designer collaboration, bringing us megawatt parternships from the likes of Banana Republic and L’Wren Scott, Phillip Lim and Target and, perhaps most significantly, Isabel Marant and H&M—but 2014 has a few developments in the pipeline that make us think otherwise. The full lookbook—plus pricing—for Peter Pilotto’s forthcoming Target collection exploded all across the internet last week, and now, we’ve just received word of an equally fantastic (not to mention colorful) summertime collaboration that’s coming soon.
Banana Republic will be teaming up with Marimekko for a nearly 25-piece line that will include dresses, separates and accessories (such as zippered clutches and ballet flats), set to hit stores this May. The bright, Finnish textile maker, known for its colorful patterns, will lend its iconic prints to Banana Republic’s tried-and-true silhouettes.
"Marimekko’s unique design of pattern and color has always inspired me as a designer," said Banana Republic’s Vice President of Women’s Design, Melloney Birkett. "With this summer capsule, we wanted to create a collection that marries Marimekko’s iconic prints with our signature silhouettes. We were inspired by Marimekko founder Armi Ratia’s motto of, ‘Stand out from the rest,’ and we designed a collection of must-have summer standouts."
