This coming Monday, Barneys New York is set to debut a fully revamped website with fun, user-friendly features.
Following in the footsteps of many other e-commerce platforms, the new layout heavily integrates social media tools. This includes the option to mark specific items or brands as "Favorites" (which, in turn, allows the store to make suggestions tailored to your taste), share products with friends and check which pieces are trending. There will also be a section of lists created by guest "tastemakers"—celebrities and fashion personalities with great personal style. The first group includes picks from Julianne Moore, Katie Holmes and the Olsen twins.
"We wanted to create a completely dynamic and very emotional experience," Daniella Vitale, chief merchant, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s merchandising and Barneys.com told WWD about the changes. "We couldn’t do [that] with the old site."
To fully enjoy these additions you’ll have to wait a few more days, but until then you should still stop by the website. Yesterday, the company rolled out a totally new design, so visually, you can get a sneak peek of what’s to come. Since I never fail to find things I want to buy at Barneys’ Madison Avenue flagship, I’m pretty excited that it will soon be easier to shop online. In the past, I’ve always felt that the limited scope of merchandise and clunky search tools didn’t do this iconic store justice. Looks like my bookmarks bar is about to get bigger…how ’bout yours?
