Backstage at fashion week, there are literally hundreds of styling products and hair tools at the ready for the hairstylists to work their magic on the models before a show. That’s why I was surprised to see only two key hair products at the Ruffian show this season. Global Creative Director Nick Irwin and designer duo Brian Wolk and Claude Morais were inspired by the glam rock movement of the ’70s to create an "expensive" blowout—and it was mainly achieved by using one styling product.
After starting off with a generous dose of Catwalk by Tigi’s Your Highness Root Boost Spray and blowdrying the hair, Nick used the Work It Hairspray not once, but four times. First he divided hair into four sections and sprayed each with Work It before using a 2" curling iron to curl hair horizontally to the nape. Without unraveling the hair from the curl, he sprayed it a second time before setting the curl with a duck bill clip and sprayed once more.
After the hair cooled, Nick removed all the clips and smoothed it out with a flat brush and finished it off again with another helping of the Work It Hairspray. You might think that four layers of hairspray sounds excessive, but it’s super lightweight even though it has a lot of hold. It works like an awesome conditioner, shine booster and hairspray-in-one without having to use a ton of different products (which is great for the winter time when you don’t want your hair to have a lot of buildup). If you’re looking for a true all-in-one hair product, this spray is it.
