As a kid, peeling apart my split ends used to be a fun way to pass time during class—but little did I know how damaging the habit really was for my hair. These days I’m a bit more careful, using a brush specifically designed for wet hair (so it doesn’t break the hair cuticle) and religiously getting trims. However, between blow drying, abusing my curling iron and general exposure to the sun, splits ends are pretty much inevitable.
While the only true way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off (into a bob, perhaps?), there are plenty of strengthening, protective products you can use to prevent them from happening as frequently. The trick is keeping hair super-moisturized and taking the right prep steps before styling.
