Yesterday, Marc Jacobs took his final bow as creative director at Louis Vuitton, the brand he’s helped shape for the past 16 years. Over the course of Jacobs’ incredible tenure, during which he collaborated with the likes of Stephen Sprouse, Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami and Sofia Coppola on more iconic accessories than we can count, the heritage label grew to become one of the most valuable luxury brands in the world. More than that, however, Marc Jacobs was an incredible showman whose runway shows for Vuitton were always the most memorable of fashion month. Whether he was recruiting Kate Moss to ride a carousel or sending models onto the catwalk in a fully-operational train (!), his seasonal presentations were about more than just revealing fresh collections—they were reminders that fashion is meant to be magical, plain and simple.
