Leave it to Beyoncé to jolt us awake with the news that she released a new, surprise album overnight.
With 14 tracks and 18 music videos, BEYONCÉ (as it is so aptly named) is the 32-year-old’s first official venture into "visual album" territory—as in, the growing trend of pop stars going against the grain when it comes to typical promotion and release of their music. Remember hubby Jay Z’s multi-hour-long summer filming of his "Picasso Baby" music video, or Pharrell Williams’ more recent 24 hours of happy? Yeah, it’s kind of like that.
But let’s get to the good stuff. BEYONCÉ apparently features multiple top tier guests, including Jay Z (because, obviously), Drake, Frank Ocean, Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland and her daughter Blue Ivy (who makes a rather interesting cameo in the ballad "Blue.") And with production from Timbaland and Pharrell, it’s also much like any other Beyoncé album thanks to a tried-and-true mix of sexy power anthems and slower, yet equally powerful hits.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Bey, for making an assuredly great Friday even better. You can get the album for $15.99 exclusively on iTunes (worth it!), with individual songs for sale on December 20.
Seriously. Thank you.
