As one of the world’s most prominent and prestigious fashion houses, Céline creates some of the most covetable high-end designs on the market. Sometimes, the pieces are so exclusive they’re kept entirely under wraps; in news that took the interwebs by storm this week, the brand’s head designer Phoebe Philo chose not to release pictures or invite photographers to Monday’s resort presentation. Additionally, reviews, tweets and iPhone snapshots were strictly prohibited.
But however top-secret the presentation may have been, it seems Céline’s not taking the same precautions with its bestselling handbags, as a handful of the brand’s much lusted-after carryalls are currently stocked online at—are you ready for this?—Sears.com. Right now, both Céline’s luggage and trapeze totes are available in a variety of colors ranging from bright yellow to classic black, with prices hovering around the $3,600 mark—which, curiously enough, is more than what many of those same bags would cost at a fancy department store or Céline flagship. Hmm.
According to the site, the bags are part of the "Marketplace at Sears.com…a community of sellers working with Sears to provide you with millions of additional items." No matter how they wound up at the mass-market retailer, it’s definitely surprising. Would you buy a Phoebe Philo original from Sears?
