After a whirlwind day of Black Friday sales, customers enjoyed a calmer shopping experience this weekend with Small Business Saturday. Created to support independent retailers and restaurants, the event garnered a number of celebrity supporters.
Christy Turlington and Chloë Sevigny were both seen at participating shops in New York City; the model scooped up some toys at Torly Kid Children’s Store in the Village and the actress/designer was spotted at Other Music on the Lower East Side. Even President Obama backed the cause with a family trip to Kramerbooks in Washington D.C.
Although we’re all for a stampede-inducing deal (um, just don’t get in our way when they open the doors to the Barneys Warehouse Sale), we love this newfound excuse for a day of boutique-hopping. What do you think? Do you prefer local incentives or midnight doorbusters?
So, two big spending days down, one to go: have you planned for today’s Cyber Monday Deals?
