We love when storied accessories house Coach dips into its rich archives—remember those awesome Net-a-Porter reissues from last year? Building off the success of those classic shapes and timeless silhouettes, the brand is lauching a brand-new—buy decidedly retro-minded—Legacy collection for men and women. We checked out the goods ourselves earlier this week and promptly started drafting our personal-order list.
For starters, Coach is spotlighting its iconic duffle bag, which will be offered in a new rainbow of candy hues. There’s also a sleek and sculptural open-topped tote, some great shrunken cross-body pouchettes in both colorful leather and ponyhair, and minimalist clutches trimmed with the brand’s signature brass toggle closure—a fixture made famous by Bonnie Cashin when she worked at Coach back in the ’60s. Nearly every bag will be finished with a duo of playful tassels, another heritage-style touch.
We also saw some great footwear options at the preview, especially the flat leather chelsea boots with contrasting elastic panels and the cute penny loafers. And for men, Coach is offering some stellar backpacks, leather desk accessories and a cool weekender bag slicked with hand-painted stripes.
To complement the overall minimalist lines and shapes of the collection, almost nothing on offer had an obvious logo on display. Add that to the Legacy line’s fairly reasonable prices (smaller bags start at $178, while the new duffle runs from $348 up), and we think this might be the company’s best lineup yet. Check out some of our favorite standouts from the Legacy collection, which will be available in stores and online on August 12, in the slideshow.
