Although the story of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel and the iconic brand she built is already a compelling one, its latest retelling, a short film for the brand called Once Upon a Time…, is even more glamorous than usual. Directed by the French label’s head of house, Karl Lagerfeld, the piece features actress Keira Knightley as the eponymous designer with a supporting cast of beautiful models, including Stella Tennant and Lindsey Wixson, playing local villagers. Not the most visually accurate depiction of Coco’s original home in Deauville, perhaps, but plenty of fun nonetheless.
An interview with the Kaiser in WWD reveals that the plot line has been somewhat embellished as well. He says that the finished product, set to release on May 8 in Singapore, will mainly consist of "invented reality." But oh, what lovely invented reality it will be! See for yourself in the teaser clip below.
