I don’t think I’ve ever given handbags the amount of respect or thought that they truly deserve. This past week I went wallet shopping—I had to replace my little girl coin purse with something that could handle my my big girl ID, keys, and metro card—and realized that while choosing between various bags and wallets, I held each one up to my outfit in the mirror and swooned in the same way I did when trying on new clothes.
Some contrasted my outfit, some complemented, but all of had one thing in common: they were a bit wacky. For instance, I spent a good 15 minutes in front of a mirror in one store contemplating the purchase of a fish bag that looked exactly like a bass. I don’t even like fish, but I loooove a good fish purse.
A bag, backpack, or purse is just as important of a statement piece as any other accessory. Maybe even more important, and definitely more fun. So why not get a little wild? I think I’m going to make a new rule for myself: from now on, if I’m going to tote around my personal belongings in something, it’s going to be something that looks nothing like a purse. (Which reminds me, I absolutely have to go back and buy that bass bag.) So, for all the daring bag-shoppers out there… this is for you.
