The talk of New York Fashion Week was Marc Jacobs’ potential move to the house of Dior, which has been searching for a new designer since it lost John Galliano last spring. But now, news out of Milan makes that all seem like a children’s game.
International Herald Tribune fashion critic Suzy Menkes—arguably the most respected fashion journalist in the world—is reporting that Jil Sander designer Raf Simons is slated to replace Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent.
Could it possibly be true? Menkes is incredibly well-sourced so it’s difficult to look upon this with skepticism. But the folks at YSL have been adament that they are happy with the work of current creative director Pilati. (The storied Parisian fashion house is more financially viable now that it’s ever been.) If Pilati is leaving, where is he going? And who will replace Simons at Jil Sander?
As Milan Fashion Week wraps up and Paris gets going, we’re bound to hear more and more whispers on these matters. Stay tuned!
