Although Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, Riccardo Tisci, Alber Elbaz and Nicolas Ghesquiere have all purportedly turned down the job, it looks like Dior may find a new creative director after all. This morning, the fashion world is buzzing about the famed French brand’s newest prospect: Belgian designer Raf Simons.
If the rumors are true, we’re very curious to see what Jil Sander‘s current head of house will bring to the table. His trademark, minimalist aesthetic would certainly be a departure from Galliano’s feminine flamboyance. (Then again, Simons is obsessed with Mid-Century couture shapes and fabrics, first made famous by THE Christian Dior.)
However, before we speculate on the clothes themselves, a few hurdles remain, including his contract at Jil Sander (which was renewed last June) and the showing of his first collection. (Since Fall 2012 Fashion Week is in just a few months, we’re guessing his debut designs would be at the summer couture shows.)
As WWD reports, Dior officials have not yet confirmed or denied these speculations. So hold tight, we’ll keep you updated. If Raf Simons doesn’t take the job, who do you think the company should approach next?
