You never know who you’ll run into during Fashion Month—and while waiting backstage before Tommy Hilfiger’s American Express show last week, I found myself face-to-face with Gabe Saporta and Ryland Blackinton of pop group Cobra Starship. The duo were prepping for their performance later that night, where they provided the live soundtrack for the runway presentation. Luckily, they were happy to field a few fashion-related questions. Read on for the scoop.
Did you guys manage to catch any NYFW shows?
Ryland: I really enjoyed Narciso Rodriguez. The color palette was amazing. There were a couple of really bold reds, with golds and browns mixed in…colors a layperson like myself would never think to combine on a garment. It made a big impact.
Gabe: I thought Tommy’s menswear show was awesome, and Simon Spurr’s too. But I have to say that my favorite fashion show—and I’m not just saying this because she’s my girlfriend—was Erin Fetherston‘s.
What was the last item of clothing you bought for yourselves?
Ryland: Probably something at Uniqlo. Their stuff fits tall, thin guys pretty well [laughs].
Gabe: I went to the All Saints sample sale recently and just went crazy. I got, like, seven pairs of shoes for $50 a pop.
Nicely done. So what do you like to see us girls wearing, in all seriousness?
Gabe: High-waisted pants.
Sorry, did you say…
Gabe: High-waisted pants? Yeah.
I just always thought that was most guys’ least-favorite item of clothing ever.
Ryland: Well, it depends on the girl.
Gabe: Depends on the guy, too! If he has good taste, that is.
