Last weekend the French people elected Socialist candidate Francois Hollande as their new President. By snubbing incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy, they also ousted his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy—a total bummer that stretches beyond party lines. It’s kinda like when Megan quit Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on this week’s Mad Men; sure, we’ll still see her outfits, but not her amazing appropriate-but-not-stuffy professional ones. Blah.
Instead, starting next Monday, May 15, Monsieur Hollande’s companion, Valerie Trierweiler, will have to assume Bruni’s mantle as France’s most stylish political female. Unless, say, Monsieur Hollande hires Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy as Ambassador of Pretty Navy Sheaths and Tailored Coats.
Click through the slideshow below for a few tips Ms. Trierweiler could steal from Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy. Though Ms. Trierweiler might not be his wife—and thus can’t technically be called a First Lady—it doesn’t mean she can’t dress like one.
