For a kid or tween with style on the brain, FashionPlaytes might just be her gateway to Parsons. Created by mom-of-three Sarah McIlory, the online design site was born in 2009 when McIlory’s own daughter Maddie showed a budding interest in fashion and sketching her own clothes.
Realizing how excited her seven-year-old would be to actually wear those self-designed pieces, McIlory launched a company based on the concept of letting children make their design dreams a reality. Today, girls can log onto the site and select any one of numerous dresses, tees, accessories or outwear items as their blank canvas. Then, by choosing her preferred color and adding trims and embellishments, she can further personalize her pick and have it shipped directly to her home, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind wardrobe. There’s even a feature that lets children design their own label for their finished garments—after all, it’s never too soon to start perfecting that logo.
FashionPlaytes offers gift certificates starting at $20, making for a unique (and chic) gift for any tiny fashion fan. Check out FashionPlaytes.com for more info.
