Lauren Bush Lauren is a lucky girl. She’s gorgeous in a totally natural way. She’s married to a wonderful guy whose dad also happens to be a famous fashion designer. And her maiden name certainly equals privilege in many circles.
But here’s the really cool thing: she’s kind of above all that. The former model launched FEED Projects five years ago, taking all those advantages she was afforded and doing something really admirable with them: creating cool bags and other merch that literally feeds thousands upon thousands of starving people. Pretty darn impressive.
The social entrepreneur’s latest project is with everyone’s favorite workwear label: DKNY. The all-black collection, which includes a sturdy, pocket-heavy Survival Tote, umbrella, diaper bag and even wellies, hit stores just a couple weeks ago. Every purchase has a cause in mind; the Survival Tote ($220) provides 100 children with protein-rich emergency food.
Yesterday I had breakfast at Bloomingdale’s with Lauren and co. to celebrate the project’s immediate success. (DKNY expects to sell out of the collection by early fall.) "It really was a dream collaboration," Lauren told the group. She’s particularly excited about the diaper bag, which fans have been requesting for years. "I think mothers are the most caring and socially conscious," she said. "They’re tuned in."
