To kick off the Harrods winter sale yesterday, Florence Welch arrived at the British department store dressed like an extra from The Chronicles of Narnia. Her tulle gown and floor-length cape, both Chanel, seemed more fitting for a fairy tale character or posh grandmother’s wardrobe than a rocker’s— which is exactly what we loved about it.
Florence is one of those predictably unpredictable dressers, one whose eccentric choices (floral crowns, leotards, menswear brogues) are never Lady Gaga costume-y but always pleasantly surprising. The girl wears off-kilter clothes in inventive ways, pushing pieces we’d never considered onto our radar. And yesterday was no exception. With its dark palette and streamlined silhouette, Florence’s gown-and-cape combo makes a fresh and ultra-glam alternative to winter’s cocktail-dress-and-tights uniform, no?
