Of the very, very few fashion rules I adhere to (bring on the white past Labor Day, visible bra straps and navy-with-black outfits!), saving velvet for winter has always been one. There’s something inherently festive about the plush fabric; it reminds me of holiday parties, caroling and other things that happen when it’s seriously cold outside. If there isn’t at least a little frost on the ground, it just look ridiculous.
The pair of velour capris above, however, just completely changed my mind. Between its breezy sky blue color and cropped, ankle-baring cut, these pants are actually something I would feel confident wearing into the office on this fine 80-degree day, probably with a simple white T-shirt tucked in and some patent leather loafers. But what’s even better about this style is that while it magically works for right now, you can totally transition it to the cooler months with long-sleeve blouses and chunky cable knit sweaters. You might actually want to order two pairs, since the first one might wear out before spring!
