Shannon and Sophie Simmons are best known as the wife and daughter of Kiss frontman Gene Simmons, as well as their family’s reality show, Gene Simmons: Family Jewels. However, the duo’s latest project—a line of women’s accessories—has little to do with the rock and roll lifestyle with which they’re associated. Set to debut with HSN on July 30, the collection includes dresses, belts, jewelry and handbags aimed toward mothers and daughters who share closets. Everything is very affordable, too: prices range between $24 and $99.
We had the opportunity to chat with the pair this week about their ideal customer, what inspired their designs and—we couldn’t help ourselves!—Mr. Simmon’s personal style.
Lucky: Did you use Gene’s on-stage style as inspiration for this collection? If so, how?
Sophie: My father’s stage style is obviously rock and roll, and I think we incorporate a little bit of that into our collection. There’s a bit of leather, the dresses are sexy, casual and probably a bit of studs too.
Shannon: I would say there is zero of Gene’s style in our pieces—either his stage or his everyday clothes (that we both are desperately trying to update!).
Are there any pieces you steal from his wardrobe?
Sophie: I definitely borrow his old jewelry! It’s all skulls and studs, which is back in style now. He also has amazing studded leather jackets—if only they fit me!
Shannon: I have never been known to borrow anything from Gene’s closet, although we have hidden a few of his favorite things.
What type of girl would wear your new HSN collection?
Sophie: I think any girl would wear our HSN designs. The dresses are designed to hide what girls love to hide—love handles, etc.—because the fabric is thick. And the jewels are very current but not an absurd price. So every girl (or occasional boy!) can wear them.
Shannon: The girl who would wear our HSN collection is busy, practical and on the move. She wants things to work together and travel well. She’s a no nonsense kinda gal, with a sense of humor.
