When Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. clothing line launched in 2003, the entertainer, then 33, was one of the first-ever celebrities to venture into the fashion sphere, and to do so well, to boot. While L.A.M.B. (standing for Love. Angel. Music. Baby.) hasn’t showed at a New York Fashion Week since 2011, Stefani has continued to cultivate her fashionable roots.
Earlier this year, Stefani launched a footwear line called Gx by Gwen Stefani, which is priced between $59 and $129 and is carried exclusively on ShoeDazzle. As for how she balances that with all her other high-energy projects, including an upcoming coaching gig on NBC’s The Voice and raising her family, which now includes five-month-old son Apollo, she told FN Spy in today’s Women’s Wear Daily: "timing is everything."
"[Designing] feels a little more accepted in a way [than when I started], and maybe that’s why this timing doesn’t feel weird at all," she said. "I feel that I’ve earned the right to be able to do this now, and at the end of the day, an accessory line feels good."
In comparison to L.A.M.B.’s more contemporary price range of between $250 and $395, Gx’s products are more accessible in price, as well as design. "This is for someone who can’t afford a more expensive shoe," she said. "It’s really hard to make shoes at this price point look good."
But of course, it’s that difficulty that makes Stefani the workhorse she is. "It feels like one of those moments when something exciting is bubbling." And we believe it.
