If you think a designer can only do bandage dresses so many ways, think again when it comes to the godfather of the oft-copied body-con look, Hervé Léger. Designer Max Azria looked to the "sultry South" for inspiration for his upcoming season—his muses were the quilting artisan women of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Of course, Azria has a smokin’ hot reputation to uphold (and his fans are expecting in-your-face sexytime pieces), so the collection incorporated the feel through printed patchwork bandage panels, intricately woven variegated color schemes and beautiful floral embroidered appliqué.
The silhouettes included the signature body-binding, skin-tight pieces, but Azria also ventured out of his comfort zone (but more comfy for us) with fishtail hems, fit and flare dresses and skinny statement trousers—granted with a delicately woven southwestern bandage detail. The revealing side cut-out cobwebb-y one piece playsuits were a hit with the crowd, too. (Ten bucks Rihanna will be snapped in St. Tropez wearing one of those.) But, of course, it’s not an Hervé Léger party without S&M-referential leather harnesses to accessorize and heavy metal chains to embellish the pieces.
Thankfully, there were no ill-timed (and very public) potty breaks at this runway show, just beautiful, etiquette-following starlets in really tight seductive dresses.
We caught up with the lovely Alexa Ray Joel, dressed in a gold sequin and tulle accented curve-enhancing bandage creation, to get her tips on how to werk that curve-enhancing look that’s not for the shy.
"You want to wear it really confidently," she said with a smile. "And you want to make sure you’re feeling great about your body because it shows every curve. And it’s not about slimming down or excentuating certain bits over others. Embrace your body the way it is. As they say, ‘shoulders back, tits out’ to really have that confidence to pull it off."
Former model, designer and MTV House of Style 1.0 veteran Daisy Fuentes is also a big fan of the label and has her eye on that sizzling cut-out suit, too. (Hands off, Ri Ri.) So will be be seeing her in it anytime soon?
"I think have like five more minutes to maybe rock that one before I get to old for it," she said with a laugh. "But it was gorgeous."
Oh, Daisy, we beg to differ. Considering how hot you looked in that silver, no-place-to-hide bandage dress, there’s lots more time left on that clock. Paging the new House of Style….
