The Scene: Online, of all places. Rather than show his designs for International Concept Brand (ICB) at a brick-and-mortar venue, Prabal turned to the interwebs. By logging into bigwig PR firm KCD’s brand-new Digital Fashion Shows platform, press and buyers could not only watch the show itself, but also check out a behind-the-scenes interview with the designer and download hi-res images from the collection. After days of scrambling for seats and craning our necks to get a good look, it was a pleasure to just sit back and experience a collection with a view that, in general, only those in the photographers’ pit get.
The Look: Quintessentially Prabal, minus the necessity of a black-tie invite. The kaleidoscopic prints were a definite highlight, done in acid-bright colors and splashed on everything from silk button-ups to fluttery full skirts and dresses. There were also some terrific moto jackets and blazers in the same eye-popping palette, this time in solid shades. Looking for statement outerwear? Perhaps a voluminous smocked chartreuse cape would appeal, or a two-textured grey coat with a fur-covered back and hem. Meanwhile, tiered ombré looks in delicate lace were formal but not fussy.
Pieces We Want: A zip-front lambskin dress with a full skirt caught our eye with its tough sexiness, as did every single kaleidoscope-print frock. Oh, and that fur-backed coat. It’s The Muppets meets The Avengers.
Bonus: What’s also great about this collection is the price. Starting at around $100 and topping off at about $1,200, this line is far more accessible than Gurung’s main collection.
