Iggy Azalea already has summer 2014 on lock with her hit single "Fancy" and the brilliant, Clueless-inspired music video that accompanies it, but now the rapper has another high-profile project in the works.
MTV announced today that Azalea will host the newest season of its beloved fashion-meets-music series House Of Style, which first premiered in 1989 and saw everyone from a fresh-faced Sofia Coppola to a zit-creamed Naomi Campbell palling around with then-host Cindy Crawford. After more than a decade’s hiatus, the network revived the series last year with Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls taking over mic duty, but moved it to an online-only format.
The latest iteration will be the first without a professional catwalker playing host, but Iggy’s episodes promise many a fashionable excursion, including a vintage shopping trip in Los Angeles with Jeremy Scott (maybe to pick up some Cher Horowitz-worthy threads?) and an on-set visit with Rita Ora. The series will premiere August 4 on MTV.com and run for eight weeks, culminating in a live "show within a show" during the Video Music Awards on August 24. Whether this is a one-season-only deal for the rapper remains to be seen, but from Kanye West’s BFF status with Carine Roitfeld to A$AP Rocky’s DKNY campaign, the love affair between hip-hop and fashion shows no signs of cooling off anytime soon, and tapping into an artist with this much hype (not to mention seven VMA noms!) seems like a solid way to grow the show’s audience.
Plus, while she may not be Cindy, if this GIF is any indication, at least we know the girl can strut.
