When Jennifer Lawrence took a tumble en route to accept her Oscar for Best Actress last year, we were stunned. Of course, the trip cemented then-22-year-old J. Law as our dream celebrity BFF—in stark contrast to another winner that evening, the reliably (and at times, frustratingly) theatrical Anne Hathaway. The fall, in all its uncalculated glory, was almost as refreshing and endearing as the young, talented star herself.
J. Law, no stranger to magazine covers or ruling the hard press circuit with her unpredictable, crude humor, appears on one of W‘s gorgeous February Movie Issue covers, and shed some light on that fall in her cover story. After a long 10 months of assuming J. Law was just as clumsy as the rest of us, the stumble, instead, can be blamed on baked goods—which, per J. Law’s nature, is even better.
"I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk. I thought, Why is ‘cakewalk’ stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, ‘Kick, walk, kick, walk.’ You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that’s why I fell."
The more you know, right?
