The British brand Joseph has, like, 40 stores in the U.K., but only one in the U.S. It’s on Madison Avenue in New York City, and it’s full of things like slim, colorful trousers, wonderfully thick shearling coats and sharply tailored blazers.
For New Yorkers who buy the same sort of luxe-looking pieces at Intermix or Barneys (and at the same prices, too—Joseph isn’t cheap), it’s a great secret resource. People here don’t know Joseph the same way they do in England; they don’t recognize the label quite as quickly. They just know what you’re wearing looks fancy.
Although that could all change with the introduction of e-commerce. Starting this week, they’re not only selling their stuff online but shipping it worldwide, too. Which means you no longer have to travel to the Upper East Side—or London—to get your hands on these cooly sophisticated clothes.
