Karlie Kloss—the new face of Victoria’s Secret’s iconic fragrance, Heavenly—is feeling a little nostalgic.
"I remember back in 2005 [before my modeling career really took off] when it was Gisele [Bundchen] sitting at the head of the table talking about how great it is to be the face of the fragrance, and now it’s me! Growing up, me and my sisters had so many strong memories from shopping together at Victoria’s Secret so it’s really bizarre to be a part of the brand now. It’s such a weird feeling!" Kloss told Lucky at a recent lunch to celebrate Heavenly’s relaunch.
If the scent sounds familiar, there’s a good reason: Heavenly has been Victoria’s Secret’s best-selling scent ever since it debuted back in 1999. That’s over 15 years of making people smell like a pretty blend of white peony, vanilla and sandalwood. While Kloss certainly calls Heavenly one of her go-tos, she confessed that she’s still madly obsessed with a discontinued Victoria’s Secret scent called Secret 55. "I was in fourth grade and my older sister was so much cooler and therefore shopped at Victoria’s Secret. One day, she bought Secret 55 and so I obviously had to wear it, too, because she did. I remember when we learned that it was being discontinued, she bought out the last five bottles from the store and to this day we have one bottle left that we’re holding onto," said Kloss.
As for the latest iteration of Heavenly, which launches on Mother’s Day on VictoriasSecret.com, the notes remain the same, but the bottle will now be available in modern, super-sleek packaging adorned with glittery angel wings on the cap. "I remember this was one of the first perfumes my sisters and I all went together to buy my mom," Kloss said in a behind-the-scenes video for the campaign. "So it has a special history with me and comes full circle that I get to be the face of it now."
