It’s impossible not to compare Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2013 show this morning to the presentation designer Marc Jacobs’ namesake label held earlier this month. Both collections were clearly inspired by loungewear and included slinky-slouchy pajama-ish outfits tucked under voluminous, robe-like overcoats. Dark and shaggy-haired models debuted both lines on a circular runway to mysterious-sounding music. The topless girl from MJ was cast a second time too, trading her booty shorts and sneer for a silver slip inset with lace.
But, as always, there were also some differences. Last season it was a matter of stripes versus checks, yellow replacing black. This time around, while Marc Jacobs—with its white-piped separates in navy and brown—was more bedtime, Louis Vuitton went completely boudoir—all pastel nighties and louche lingerie. And only the Paris event was closed by Kate Moss, dressed in a completely sheer gown with strategically placed embellishments. Her appearance was a surprise—the super hasn’t hit the catwalk since 2011—but a welcome one, met with wild cheers from the crowd.
As Paris Fashion Week ends today, we probably won’t see her at any more shows, but maybe this means she’ll walk more next September. We sure hope so—how about you?
