Unlike Matthew Williamson or Balmain—which both launched lower-priced lines last year—Kenneth Cole is moving in the opposite direction. Instead, the designer’s introducing a higher-end spinoff of his Kenneth Cole New York line.
In contrast to this 30-year-old brand, the new Kenneth Cole Collection will be a little less "on-trend," Cole told WWD, and more focused on "well made" pieces. Prices will match the craftsmanship, starting at $400 for a dress and climbing up to $900 for a tailored coat.
From what we’ve seen so far—moto jackets, pencil skirts and pointy-toe booties—both Kenneth Cole lines share the designer’s signature industrious, sleek vibe.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until it hits stores in July to inspect the more luxe collection up close and see how its feel and fit have changed. In the meantime, though, we can always pore over the collection’s video below, and shop Kenneth Cole’s more wallet-friendly items here. (Like this little black top, which costs about the same as a Hunger Games ticket and armful of snacks.)
