Collaborations are all the rage these days, and news broke this morning that LVMH-owned fashion brand Kenzo has appointed Opening Ceremony’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon as its new Creative Directors, effective immediately. You may be thinking, "Opening Ceremony…what? Kenzo…who?”. The former is the NYC-based specialty store for those in-the-know, noted for creating unexpectedly cool merch with edgy and/or obscure designers — perhaps Opening Ceremony x Chloe Sevigny might ring some bells. Meanwhile, Kenzo is a worldwide brand of perfumes, skincare products and clothing that’s popular in Asia and Russia. Its U.S. presence has been limited in the recent past, and the big cheese at LVMH wants to change that. It’s always exciting to witness young designers breathe new life into heritage brands—a la Phoebe Philo with Celine. We can’t wait to see what Lim and Leon will do—the Twitterverse is already buzzing—when they show their first collection this fall.
