Kim Kardashian gets a lot of flak. Her holiday present from fiancé Kanye West, an Hermès carryall custom-painted with menacing figures by artist George Condo, is the sort of thing that could give a small child (or grown woman) nightmares. Her family Khristmas Kard never fails to incite ire—especially this past year’s version, which featured Bruce Jenner stuck in a glass tube and mom Kris wearing a perplexing Cleopatra headdress. Her cameo in Yeezy’s "Bound 2" video was so silly, it inspired a celebrity-fronted spoof. And then there’s the fact that she’s basically famous for squabbling with her family on national television.
Still, you’ve gotta hand it to the lady, because her fashion game’s been seriously on point lately. Ever since she began dating Kanye in early 2012, she’s been hitting the streets in in straight-off-the-runway looks from the likes of Givenchy, Céline and Alaïa—and whether that’s due to the superstar rapper’s influence (he’s the self-proclaimed "Steve Jobs of fashion," after all) or her own choice, it’s working for her. And the absolute best part of Kim K’s new(-ish) and improved wardrobe? Her outerwear.
Over the past couple years–and during these last few months in particular—the paparazzi darling’s been spotted in an array of gorgeous camel, pale pink and cream-colored coats from some big-name labels. And in addition to those marvelously minimalist pieces, she’s also got a spot-on collection of furs to call her own, from a black-and-white number to a sleeker, shorter-haired black coat to a wool topper with a contrasting fur collar. What’s more, Kim is walking proof that a great coat can elevate pretty much any ensemble; often, she wears little more than strategically-ripped skinny jeans and basic tees or button-ups beneath her outerwear.
In short, especially in light of this delightful polar vortex we’re currently experiencing, I’d love nothing more than to raid Kim Kardashian’s coat closet. Still need convincing?
