Concluding tomorrow, Spring 2014 Paris Couture Week has proven to be anything but routine. Thus far, it’s brought us $3,000 handmade sneakers, Cara Delevingne in a wedding dress and an Elie Saab model taking a shockingly poised tumble on the catwalk—and now, we’ve got a high fashion runway raid on our hands. Well, sort of.
Lady Gaga—who’s been engaging in some serious sorcery lately, as she’s gradually morphing into Donatella Versace’s body double—appeared in Versace’s Spring 2014 campaign and sat front row at the fashion house’s couture show this past weekend. And evidently, normal fashion-industry lending rules don’t apply when you’re not only the face of the collection in question, but also one of Donatella’s BFFs.
As Vogue UK reports, Gaga borrowed the line’s pièce de résistance—a crystal-embellished mesh hood, pictured above—to wear with a white fluffy coat to the Versace dinner after the show. Reportedly, when Gaga then asked if she could keep the one-of-a-kind masterpiece, Donatella said yes.
So clearly, Gaga didn’t "steal" the item, but it is atypical for a fashion house to gift a couture piece so soon after its runway debut. Of course, Gaga is nothing if not unconventional, so this shouldn’t surprise anyone—especially when the gift-giver is someone equally as unconventional as Donatella.
