Seth Meyers’ first week of Late Night has been off to a roaring start: first a Kanye West philosophical session, followed by a total Amy Poehler lovefest—and yesterday, the ever-controversial Lena Dunham stopped by. Next Saturday, Lena will host the show at Seth’s old haunt, Saturday Night Live, so the duo discussed Girls, her adolescent SNL obsession and, most notably, a frightening brush with the law at the airport.
That’s right, folks: the Lena Dunham recently got stopped in the security line at Los Angeles International Airport after the security scanner detected a "self-defense keychain" in her purse.
"It’s shaped like a cat," the 27-year-old Girls creator explained. "It goes over your knuckles, but I guess the two ears could gut somebody." She went on to fully recount the experience, which, as we learned, included a criminal background check: "I was so scared. I was like, ‘They’re going to Amanda Knox me. I’m going to go away for a long time. The criminal justice system is broken in this country. They put away the good people and let the bad people go free."
Despite the anxiety-ridden nature of the encounter, we will say that Lena does tell a great story. Watch the clip below:
