Not only are Clover Canyon’s kaleidoscopic prints gorgeous, wearing them is like taking a mini vacation. "Every collection has a geographic theme, and we really try to depict the heart and soul of the place in the patterns," says designer Rozae Nichols, the L.A.-based line’s creative director. Her past collections have covered exotic locales from Russia to Cuba. This season, though, she’s going back to the label’s West Coast roots, drawing inspiration from architecture in California. "I really love early- and mid-20th-century structures," says Nichols, an admirer of visionaries such as John Lautner and Charles and Ray Eames. “So many of the buildings incorporate clean lines, translucency and the surrounding landscape." To capture that sleek, airy feel, her graphic motifs cleverly collage original blueprints, hand drawings and saturated photographs of foliage. "I wanted to celebrate that blissful indoor-outdoor Los Angeles lifestyle," she says. California, here we come.
