Lorde might be like nothing we’ve ever seen before—and in the best way possible.
Case in point: the brand-new music video for her smash hit, "Team" (which has sold a very impressive 3.7 million copies to date). Fresh off her critically-acclaimed debut LP Pure Heroine, "Team" is exceptionally creative. And in it, she interprets the lyric "We live in cities you’ll never see onscreen" quite literally. The 17-year-old pop prodigy based the video on a series of magical dreams which feature a teen hierarchy, hazy tropics and a full head of envy-inducing braids. Before we give too much away, Lorde posted the following description of the eerily beautiful video on her Facebook page:
"This video was borne from a dream I had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world, a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was Queen. I dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat. And of this world, I dreamt about tests that didn’t need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger. Enjoy."
