Lucky Brand Jeans is debuting a new plus-size line next month. The collection, which is called "Lucky Plus," will begin with several tops—sweaters, tees and woven shirts priced from $49.50 to $119—and a department store-exclusive jean called the "Ginger," available in sizes 14-24 and marked between $99 and $129.
All Ginger denim will be made from the same stretchy material, with a midrise. However, customers will have a variety of leg openings (skinny, boot, straight) and fabrics (black, colored corduroy, dark and light rinse) to choose from. And soon, there’ll be even more options—eventually, the company hopes to make Lucky Plus a thriving lifestyle brand. It already has plans to add pull-on legging and dresses next holiday season. Patrick Wade, Lucky’s creative director, told WWD that they aim to be, "fashion-right," and give plus size women "something that’s fun to wear."
After years of having a sad selection of one or two mall stores to shop from, we’re happy to see that more labels are beginning to design for women of all body types. Lucky isn’t the only mainstream store to expand its sizes—we’ve also seen recent launches from The Limited (Eloquii) and larger high-end looks from designers like Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Elie Tahari. Still, even with these recent developments, it’s tough to find fashionable clothes cut bigger than a 12.
