I love little black dresses—like, really love them. I understand they’re a cornerstone of any well-developed wardrobe, can solve any outfit quandary in seconds and never really date, but my obsession with them goes beyond that. It’s almost unhealthy, really.
So early on Black Friday morning, when I wandered into Miami’s Neiman Marcus with my mom (it’s a spendy family tradition), I made a beeline for two LBDs that instantly called my name. One, a bow-shouldered sleeveless version from RED Valentino, was peppered with tone-on-tone polka dots and seemed like something Blair Waldorf might wear on a more subdued day. Another, by Carven, featured long sleeves and a flattering wrapped bodice. So very Kate Middleton, and surprisingly unlike any of the other black dresses already hanging in my closet. One sweet, the other sleek, the two looks truly made the perfect combo.
Unable to choose between the pair, I wound up buying both—and thanks to Neiman’s Black Friday deals, they totaled up to less than either dress’ individual retail price. Score! Now, I just have to figure out how to get these (and my several other Thanksgiving weekend buys) back to NYC in my tiny carry-on bag. I probably should’ve planned ahead for this.
