I, like many Lucky staffers, am constantly hunting for the perfect grey sweatshirt. I’ve got some good ones—from Alexander Wang, American Apparel, vintage—but I’ve yet to find THE one. It’s kind of like searching for your signature scent: there are plenty of great options, but it’s hard to make a single choice.
However, it seems that my quest may be over. I spied this Columbia Knit sweatshirt ($85) in Brooklyn menswear boutique Goose Barnacle a few weeks ago. And I loved it because it was classic: thin but not too thin, not too long but not too cropped. What more could I want?
Goose Barnacle was sadly sold out of my size, but it was still up for grabs on archivalclothing.com. The online retailer designed the sweatshirt in partnership with 90-year-old Portland, Oregon manufacturer Columbia Knit, and it’s available in smokey grey (my choice), navy and navy/white stripe.
I’m going to wear my new sweatshirt with everything: pencil skirts, jeans, leather leggings. Just not with lounge pants. It’s too special for that.
