We’ve been obsessed with London-based rock quartet The Vaccines for about a year now, having kept their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? on permaplay for months at a time. And with the band’s current jam-packed tour schedulethey just hit Coachella, and tonight they’re playing here in NYC—and recent confirmation of a sophomore album, they’re building industry buzz faster than ever.
Known for their Ramones-style sound and party-hearty lyrics, the group signed with Columbia Records (home of Sleigh Bells, Kings of Leon and Foster the People) shortly after their first single dropped. Though many of their songs clock in at under two minutes, they pack major energy with their surf-punk vibe and rocking guitar riffs—and are sure to get stuck in your head after just one listen.
Click through the slideshow to read my Q&A with Freddie Cowan, The Vaccines’ guitarist/vocalist (in which I grill him about the group’s signature style and the origins of their infamous tune "Norgaard"), and to shop some menswear picks inspired by the band. Then, check out the awesomely nostalgic Instagram video for the band’s single "Wetsuit" below!
