The thing about these calf-length Marc Jacobs resort collection dresses (in conjunction with their punchy colors, old-timey 1940s silhouettes and general amazingness) is that they demand some kind of interesting shoe.
With covered necklines and long silhouettes that draw the eye downwards, there should be some sort of fabulous footwear to focus on, shouldn’t there?
We think so, and so does Hailee Steinfeld. Last month, she paired her sleeveless teal dress from Marc’s resort collection with a blocky wooden platform that looked like a cross between ’70s prom queen and geisha footwear, and we loved it.
Then earlier this week, model Dree Hemingway proved she’s savvy to the formula too, by pairing her printed Marc Jacobs dress with white canvas Bensimon lace-ups at the Locarno Film Festival.
Since the shirtdress is a way more daytime-y than a glittery minidress, the sneaker choice wasn’t a Kristen Stewart-on-the-red-carpet defiance, but still, it was a bit of a statement. As a slightly more subversive alternative to stilettos or ballet flats, those sneakers echoed the dress’s effortless cool factor. And yeah, we loved it, again.
