Lupita Nyong’o has a new accolade to add to her résumé (which, for those keeping track at home, already includes: Oscar winner, Lancôme spokeswoman and generally most graceful person on the planet)! The 31-year-old actress has nabbed the title of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Person of 2014 and, with that, a radiant cover for the issue’s 25th anniversary. After her positively flawless whirlwind of an awards season, we couldn’t imagine a more worthy recipient.
In an interview with the publication, Nyong’o discussed how she once associated beauty with the stereotypical imagery seen on TV such as "light skin and long, flowing, straight hair." She added: "Subconsciously, you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess."
This week, People‘s editorial director Jess Cagle explained the obvious choice during the cover’s reveal on Today, saying: "There was really no contest this year. She seemed like the only choice. Usually there’s a lot of debate; this time, we were all in agreement. She’s obviously talented, obviously beautiful, she is incredibly stylish, but the way she carries herself with such grace and such humility, I think it’s what put her over the top."
