While we’re still drooling over the second installment of the Versace x H&M collection—you know, the one we can’t have (Stateside, anyway)—there’s a small consolation in store: Versace just launched its limited-edition DV One Cruise watch collection. So yay, the pieces are up for grabs in the U.S., but we’re not quite talking high-street shopping (prices start at around $2,050). Then again, isn’t that the point of designer limited-edition? We can always look, which is what we did when we dropped by the super-opulent Fifth Avenue Versace flagship for the line’s launch bash.
The party was held on the second floor of the glitzy townhouse boutique, which is very Milan-meets-Miami. (We almost didn’t notice that an all-glass wall covered in white baroque patterns was actually a voyeuristic elevator bank.) Media and guests (who were definitely VIP clientele) sipped on champers, snacked on passed bite size hors d’oeuvres (served by the requisite moonlighting male model cater waiters, obviously) and admired the dazzling new Cruise collection.
While the House of Versace has been doing watches for a while now, word on the street is that Donatella decided to switch things up and throw some signature bold colors and straightfoward flashiness into the timepiece offerings. This special unisex line is filled with chunky styles (Versace does not go small) with bright candy-hued alligator skin straps in Barbie pink, electric blue and lemon yellow. There’s also a traditional black if you’re feeling shy. Sportier versions are available, too, minus the sparkle. But again, why go small? For the utlimate arm party, go for styles featuring bezels encrusted with yellow, pink or Paraiba topaz. There are only about 100 watches available per style and the jeweled pieces range from $3,850 to $31,500.
Apparently, one of the guests at the party was feeling very flush. About an hour into the event, we noticed that one of the glass display cases had been relieved of its bubblegum pink DVOne Cruise timepiece. One lucky lady out there is having an especially happy holiday.
